For the past seven years the Fellowship has supported the magnificent work of the Everyday Heroes Club in the township of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, near Cape Town, by funding key workers in their team.
The Everyday Heroes Club provides mentoring and teaching in English and maths to a group of boys, mostly teenagers, who live in the township often in chaotic and extremely challenging social, economic and physical circumstances.
The Club, led by Maresa Du Plessis and a dedicated team, provides the guidance and stability that is so often missing for these boys, where the pressures of gang violence, drugs, poverty and lack of hope can otherwise prove overwhelming.
However, it is in fact the sheer enthusiasm, determination and resilience of the boys themselves that is most impressive, as they refuse to succumb to the huge obstacles provided by their environment.
